On the northwest corner of the square a mortar-and-pestle finial is still on the top of the Gothic-revival tower — it refers to the building's original function as a pharmacy. Enlarge.
Drugstores were housed here from 1857 until 1996, when Brown's Pharmacy closed.
On the north side of the square, the three-story building with the turret has changed very little, and is unusual because few commercial buildings were built in the Queen Anne style. Enlarge. |
