As part of National Trails Day, volunteers planted 6 trees and installed 4 new benches along the Loop Trail.

Summer 2005:
Bridge PhotoThree new bridges were built across creeks on a route that will connect Chautauqua Park Bridge with the Neff Wetlands. The trail surfacing will be completed later in 2006, after which the trail will be opened. More photos will appear here soon.

(dedicated Oct 2, 2004, as the Huggins Family Bridge)

The Chautauqua Park Bridge was decked by volunteers after Schaus-Vorhies installed the hot-dipped galvinized metal supports over Crow Creek. Many thanks to the volunteers, Schaus-Vorhies, Jeff Abbey of Fairfield Lumber, and Pam Craff of the Park and recreation Dept. The trail surfacing will be completed later.

Mar & Apr 2003:
The posts at Reservoir # 2 were replaced. A trail was marked through the U S Cellular property for a trail connecting Walton Rd with the to-be-built BNSF Bridge. And a potential trail route connecting Chautauqua Park with the BNSF Bridge was explored.

Jul & Aug 2002: Zillman Bridge/Neff Family Wetlands Dike trail:
Volunteers extended the boardwalk at Lamson Woods. It is now complete. The dike was surfaced by the contractor.

Jan 12, 2002: Walking Trail at Pond # 2:
Volunteers cleared a vaguely existing path along the west side of pond # 2. About a mile long with a loop at the north end, it is for walkers only, as it is rather rough. So few woods are left in Iowa -- let's keep this one for hiking

Oct 20, 21, 2001: Lamson Woods Boardwalk Construction:
After waiting 1 year we finally received our permit to build the new boardwalk off the new Lamson Woods Bridge. The boardwalk connects to a new wetland area built last year and is part of the Jefferson County Trail System.

On the weekend of Oct 20th & 21st , we assembled a large crew of men to complete the boardwalk in only two days! HyVee donated $50 worth of food and beverage. A number of women volunteered, cooking, and setting up tables on the bridge for lunch and snacks on both days.

We asked for your help, assistance, and participation, and we got it!
