Put on your detective caps and come out to the Jefferson County Trails system for the second annual Jefferson County Trails Council (JCTC) Scavenger Hunt. The Jefferson County Trails system will play host to this all-ages event from May 28 to July 1, 2016.

Participants will collect punches at 10 locations along the trail to be entered in drawings for prizes from AJ’s Bicycle Shop, Brown’s Shoe Fit, a Fitbit Charge, The Sweet Spot, and Ila in Fairfield. Drawings for prizes will take place the evening of July 1 at Central Park during Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk.

This event is a great way to get out and see all the trails in Fairfield and Jefferson County have to offer. “We have placed the punches at ten noteworthy locations along the trails”, said JCTC Chairman Stephen Pedrick. Whether you are a local who knows the trails like the back of your hand, or a visitor from out of town, this event is sure to please.

At least 550 individuals participated in the 2015 scavenger hunt, with nearly 120 finishing the hunt a year ago. “Last year, it was a full time job keeping punch cards stocked at each kiosk”, said JCTC Treasurer Bob Hunerdosse. Participants can pick up scavenger hunt punch cards at AJ’s Bicycle Shop (123 North Court Street), trailhead kiosks, Fairfield Recreation Center, and MUM Recreation Center. Completed punch cards should be returned to AJ’s Bicycle Shop.

The 30-plus mile trails system is an asset to Fairfield and Jefferson County. The Scavenger Hunt will take participants on much of the trails system, but as Pedrick adds, “our hope is this event will inspire people to explore more of the trails in Fairfield.”

This event is sponsored by: AJ’s Bicycle Shop, Jefferson County Health Center, and the Jefferson County Trails Council.
